We can reduce our filter requirement
In 2004 we made the decision to go to a furrow injection system to apply UAN in the furrow for easy application of trace elements and fungicide, in response to the outbreak of stripe rust. We chose to go with a pressurized orifice plate style system. This system was good however it needed maintenance in regard to regular flushing and orifice plate cleaning when using trace elements.
We persevered until 2015 when we decided to try some CalSap and liquid Phosphate product from Optima Agriculture. With that decision we upgraded to Optima Friction Flow to remove the small orifice plate out of our system. Optima Friction Flow was easily retro-fitted and once we sorted out adequate filtration on our system, we found it to be maintenance free.
We only need to carry a roll of tube on the machine as spare and in the dark you are not having to deal with losing orifice plates when you drop them. In general, maintenance is much easier in the field since making the switch.
We believe in 2016 we can reduce our filter requirement down to a course main filter (suction) and one self-cleaning filter and keep the rest of the system simple. We are also considering a second machine which we would definitely put Optima Friction Flow on.
